OpenZeppelin
Motivation
OpenZeppelin’s mission is to create and protect the Open Economy. In a decentralized governance system, a Security Council is an essential tool for maintaining protocol security and decentralization. Serving as a member of the Arbitrum Security Council aligns with our mission by protecting a significant decentralized ecosystem.
Since 2015, OpenZeppelin has contributed to the space through our industry-standard open-source contracts library, gold-standard security audits—trusted by the ArbitrumDAO and other leading protocols—and by establishing best practices for vulnerability detection, threat response, and the design of Security Councils (https://blog.openzeppelin.com/security-council-best-practices-guide)
Our experience with the broader ecosystem, combined with our close work with the Arbitrum community, uniquely positions us to continue contributing to Arbitrum’s security. We are deeply committed to enhancing the resilience and integrity of Arbitrum.
Experience
Our extensive experience has enabled us to enhance security and governance within decentralized protocols and ecosystems. We have developed a suite of security tools and processes tailored to the needs of DAOs, ensuring their operations remain secure and governed effectively.
In our commitment to decentralized security, we’ve played a key role in multiple governance frameworks:
- Compound’s Pause Guardian Multi-Sig – serving as a signer to help safeguard the protocol.
- Arbitrum Security Council – serving as a signer & providing strategic recommendations to improve the Council’s operational efficiency and impact on ecosystem security since March 2024.
- Arbitrum Research & Development Collective Security Member – trusted by the ArbitrumDAO for both V1 and V2 of the program, underscoring our expertise and the value we bring to the table in safeguarding decentralized platforms and ecosystems. You can review a list of our deliverables to the Arbitrum Community here: https://forum.arbitrum.foundation/u/openzeppelin/activity
In addition to ARDC deliverables, our work on the open-source Stylus Contracts Library (https://github.com/orgs/OpenZeppelin/projects/35) and our audit of the Stylus SDK have helped strengthen Arbitrum’s developer ecosystem, providing secure, reliable tools that enable developers to build confidently within the Rust-based Stylus environment. These contributions reflect our dedication to building essential, resilient infrastructure that enhances the Arbitrum ecosystem’s security and functionality.
