Motivation
I saw this just as I was going through my multi-signer ritual for a SAFE I'm a part of, and I thought, "Well, that would be one hell of an honor to do." Given the upcoming ApeChain launch, I'd love to get more involved with the Arbitrum ecosystem in any way I can. Still, I also felt uniquely qualified to throw my name in the hat for this responsibility.
I'm easy to reach, with geographic uniqueness and over a decade of crypto and security experience. I have extensive experience writing security policies, post-mortems, hotwash docs, and organizing fire drills, and I am more than happy to lend that skillset to the role. I love getting involved in DAOs and have been active in many of them over the years, including ApeDAO, ApeCoin DAO, Inverse Finance, BadgerDAO, and a smattering of failed projects/DAOs before forming my own (Boring Security DAO).
Experience
Around the early 2010s, I transitioned my IT career to focus more on Security, which was my interest as a kid. Just as I started my security career in early 2013, I discovered Bitcoin and cryptocurrency. When I wasn't working in the Microsoft Cyber Defense Operations Center (CDOC), I was hustling around the city installing Antminer ASIC miners for fellow bitcoin-curious miners.
Security and crypto have been overlapping pursuits since the beginning. As I lost funds in exchanges, I took self-custody very seriously. Fast forward to 2020, and at this time, I transitioned to work in Cyber Risk for a top hedge fund (Two Sigma) by day, teaching a DeFi class and degen-ing hard by night. Until one day, the BadgerDAO front end got hacked. I had some losses, but it got me thinking, "If someone who has been in Security for years can sign a malicious transaction without realizing it, and I'm watching all these crypto devs get hacked, then the non-tech folks coming into NFTs have no chance."
I gathered a bunch of security nerds, left the corporate world, and Boring Security was born. We pride ourselves on providing non-technical folks the tools they need to operate securely in this space (as well as other things like Flashbots recoveries and Discord Audits). Whether it's understanding Etherscan, Sleuthing, Solana architecture, or Multisig wallets, we create resources for folks to take on the world of self-custody from all aspects.
Thanks to this, I have created systems to prevent our alumni and me from making costly mistakes while signing (no costly signature mistakes since!). I strive to stay current in EVM Security, explain it to Boring Security students, and ensure they understand it. Also, being surrounded by the legends of the Security Council will only add fuel to the fire, so it synergizes well with my current mission and activities.
